L'opera registra temperatura e umidità ogni sessanta secondi.
Serve, e tace.
Nessuna lavorazione delegata, nessun reparto, nessun "quasi". Ogni decisione che dà carattere all'opera passa dalle stesse mani.
Interno in cedro spagnolo massello, stagionato in atelier.

Every day spent in a mass-produced humidor — young woods, industrial glues, approximate seals — a vintage cigar surrenders humidity, essential oils and value. Slowly. Irreversibly.
No sound. No visible sign. The first warning can arrive when the bouquet has already changed.
Those who collect the rarest pieces in the world know it: a great cigar is a living organism. It breathes, feeds on time, and holds within its leaves the secrets of the land that created it. Art is not stored: it is guarded. Or lost forever.
The window is narrow: 65–72% humidity, 18–21 degrees. Outside it, no fire is needed to destroy a collection. A single season will do.
The costliest risk is the one your collection cannot show you.
That is why every essential parameter must be verifiable.

The piece records temperature and humidity every sixty seconds. You don't have to read charts or watch numbers: you are alerted only when a decision is required.
Every piece is born from a drawing that, on delivery, is destroyed. You receive the certificate of uniqueness, signed by hand. There will not be another — not for another client, not for a museum, not for me. Ever.
The guardianship that protects your collection lives embedded in the wood: invisible, silent, without a single cable in sight. The technology does not show itself. It serves, and stays quiet.
No outsourced work, no department, no "almost". Every decision that gives the piece its character passes through the same hands. Mine. It is the only Made in Italy I recognize: the one I cannot subcontract to anyone.
Every piece is born already watched over. Three depths of vigil, one inside the other: from the proof of what it is, to the certainty that someone protects it even when you cannot.
An invisible NFC seal holds the piece's passport: drawing, wood, hours, signature. Anyone, with a touch, can prove what it is. The value of your piece, proven forever.
Metrology-grade sensors read humidity and temperature every sixty seconds. A silent app, a single notification: the one that matters. You do not hope the range is stable. You know.
Active humidification, drift below one percent, an intelligence that corrects before it happens. And the atelier keeping watch over the years. One day your collection will pass to others — and it will remain protected. Even when the hand that chose it is no longer here.
Solid Spanish cedar interior, seasoned in the atelier. Hand-calibrated sealing gaskets; closure checked by air pressure. Passive humidification system with integrated reserve; provision or installation of sensors according to the chosen degree of guardianship. Lead time is discussed during the consultation, according to path and wood. Every piece leaves the atelier with its technical dossier and NFC digital passport.

Before the drawing, there is the waiting. Century-old trunks of briar, walnut and Spanish cedar rest in the shadows of the atelier for years, until I recognize — in a grain, in a density, in a scent — the piece that wood had been keeping all along.
Then come the hands. Gestures gathered from men who have worked wood for over seventy years, repeated without haste and without shortcuts, until the material surrenders its form. It is the one resource no fortune can buy: the time of those who know how to wait.
"A work of art cannot be replicated. If an identical piece exists anywhere in the world, then it is not luxury. It is merely production.
I did not inherit their years.
I learned where improvisation is not permitted.
At trade fairs devoted to fine cabinetmaking, among luxury furniture and nautical work, I met three craftsmen from Bassano, Val Gardena and Brianza. One taught me to read light before form: when it breaks across the surface, the grain has been forced.
Another taught me to listen to what the material refuses: wood does not lie; it reveals when a drawing is asking too much of it.
The third taught me never to work from memory: before every irreversible stage, temperature and humidity are measured again.
The rest came at the bench: roughly ten years of commissioned work for companies, spanning yachts, luxury pieces and custom spearguns. Projects in which I received an idea and had to find the right way to give it material form. Officina De Pandis is the name this work takes today.
I turned down a walnut burl flawless to the eye: touch revealed a hidden tension. Lost the board. Saved the piece.
In a house, wood rests. On a yacht, it lives with the sea. That is why, to me, a humidor is not a box: it is an environment.
Cedar precedes what you will see. The hinge slows the gesture. The lid reaches its point of balance and stays there. Only then does the collection appear.
Even the closing has a voice. The sound of the lid, the resistance of the air and the way the cavity returns the gesture help you sense seal, mass and constructive precision. They do not determine the cigar's aging: they make the quality of the piece perceptible to whoever opens it.
The Spanish cedar interior holds humidity in the exact range that protects the tobacco's essential oils, and grants cigars capable of refinement the one thing they truly ask for: undisturbed time. Oils marry, edges soften, character rounds. And in the pieces that keep watch with the Custode, stability is not a promise: it is a figure you read on your phone every morning, wherever you are in the world.
Anyone will see a work of art. Only those who know the material will understand what they're looking at.

They are not three versions of the same object, nor three prices for the same thing. Only two things grow together: the author's time that exists for you alone, and the depth of the guardianship.

A unique piece born from the author's free inspiration. The time has already been spent: the piece exists — the only path that does not wait.

The design is born from the consultation, and the making belongs to you alone: for weeks, the atelier's bench sets everything else aside.

A year of the atelier built around a single commission: yours. You are not buying a piece: you are entering its time.
No cart, no price list: every piece is born from a confidential email conversation with Riccardo De Pandis. I won't ask which wood you desire: first I will want to know what it must guard, where it will live, and for how long. After the consultation, the commission deposit reserves the atelier's time and is fully credited against the value of the piece.
